Avunculus B

He never once objected
All the times I sought his view
When I called on him for wisdom
He would know just what to do

Whether I contacted him by letter
Or by a telephone call
When I found a new Big Problem
He would make my worry small

From the time I was a little boy
When he visited from the sea
Through to being a man in adulthood
He was always there for me

He would always have a cause to fight
His pen mightier than any sword
For those daring to cause injustice
Struck in defeat by his lightening words

He lived aloof from those he loved
A distance he seemed to need
Yet I was never unaware
Of how his heart would bleed

I know today his pride would shine
If only he could see
Though my cousins and I grew up apart
We are reunited family

He lived a life as big and bold
As a life could ever be
To me he was like ‘Professor Yaffle’
My wonderful Uncle, in perpetuity.
