Diversity, Facebook & Writing

My Diploma in Creative Writing course is coming along very well.  I am delighted to say that I am getting some pretty amazing feedback from my course tutor.  One of my course modules was to write a short story for children and, in doing so, I believe I have created a lovely couple of characters and an interesting and exciting story and theme; something I would like to turn into a professional piece to submit to a publisher.

One of my lead characters is a British child of Asian heritage.  Just as I completed this story for my course I found, on television, an interesting story being presented on the news in the last week or two.  It  reported how few non white British characters there are in children’s books.  If the feedback my tutor gave me is anything to go by, not only have I created a wonderful set of characters and a theme that could span an entire series of books, but I would also be contributing toward representing British children whose heritage may be other than white British.  I just need a willing publisher to consider taking a risk on my story.

My next assignment and module are on Journalism.  Again, another great element to develop a formal skills set in.

In my work as a Psychotherapist, I have recently written a new course of Mindfulness sessions.  Writing this has been enjoyable.  The research and the thought processes that go into developing a therapy programme is something I thoroughly enjoy. The pressure here is that the course is a scripted course and, therefore, it is like a presentation that has to fit a limited time-frame.  In this case, forty-five minutes long sessions.  Find out more at:  http://www.deanparsons.co.uk/services/mindfulness/

I took a decision to close down my two former professional Facebook pages and I have, instead, created one professional Facebook page.  This new page is about all of my work.  Rather than having one Facebook page for my work as a writer and one for my work as a psychotherapist, I have taken a risk and combined the two.  In a very short time, I already have more followers that my two former Facebook pages had combined!  Why not join the conversation and fun?  Visit my Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/deanparsonswriter and join the 250+ people who already like and follow my page.

What I am enjoying, in particular, is the way that my page followers are interacting with each other.  It is starting to feel like a community of people who share the same interests and that can only be a good thing.

In the midst of my rather busy summer, I have also set up a new venue for seeing my clients for counselling, psychotherapy, clinical supervision and mindfulness.  Clients can now see me at The Fromus Centre in Saxmundham, here in Suffolk, in addition to my other venues.

Further new venues will soon be added.  Please keep checking my web site or Facebook page for further information about these exciting new developments.

I have also been developing my web site: www.deanparsons.co.uk   I have now built in a specific section relating to my writing services.  Again, this is only in the early stages of development but do keep an eye on it and you will see how my writing services change and develop as I progress.

My web site has a new look and feel and it will continue to function as a ‘shop window’ for my services.

In addition to all of the above, I have been working hard to support my clients, I have been on a wonderful little holiday to stay with family in Hartlepool; north west England and I have been trying to pace myself and remain in good health in order that my biggest challenge remains manageable.  That challenge is Parkinson’s Disease.  I work hard to balance the demands of my illness with all of the things I want and need to be doing in life.  That can be tricky and exhausting but I will not let the Parkinson’s stop me from living a full life.

Urgent Plea for Support:

Please help me in my efforts to raise funds for Parkinson’s UK.

Thank you, to those of you who repeatedly donate/have donated. The total raised, so far, for Parkinson’s UK is now at £741 🎉👍 There’s still a way to go to reach my £10,000 goal. Can we reach £1,000 by the end of this year?

I’m fund raising for Parkinson’s UK. To donate, please text: DPJG99 £(amount) to 70070, where your donation will be added to my ‘JustGiving’ page:https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/dean-parsons-parkinsonsuk-fund-raising?utm_id=13

I cannot tell you how much it would mean to me to be able to achieve this goal, for Parkinson’s UK.
